CHARACTERISTICS OF HOUSTON

While Houston has long been recognized as the energy capital of the world, it is the energy of its diverse population, vibrant business climate and quality of life that make it unique. It is an international city. It is a leader in the arts, education and healthcare. It is a city that continues to take the best of its past and build on the future.

Houston is supposed to be more open but also rough, less refined, more brawling and individualistic than other Texas Cities.

Houston, while growing through the years through free market needs, has been criticized for not having zoning.  Although this lack of zoning has created interesting neighbors the Houston market forces have always moved in the same direction.  This wild, freestyle dance sets Houston apart from all other cities and gives it a unique appealing quality.

Houstonians support their city.  The Rodeo, Medical Center, Astrodome, Union Station Ballpark, Ship Channel and the Johnson Space Center were all a result of a unified civic will.

It is not circumstance that Houston is the fourth largest city in the US.  At every opportunity Houston has grown through acquisition.  Taking over neighboring areas and supplying them with city services and new tax schedules.
